The Brown Bear Self Contained Composting Aerator is a horizontal aerator that provides a cost-effective solution for various composting needs. These needs include:
- Dewatering sludge in beds
- Building windrows
- Blending bulking agents or additives
- Pulverizing and aerating
- Water mixing for aerobic composting
The rapid handling rate of the aerator exposes 100% of the material to oxygen immediately, which helps to absorb noxious odors. In addition, handling costs can be as low as one to two cents per ton.
Simple Operation and Low Maintenance
The Brown aerator is easy to operate. It works directly into the material, forming it into a windrow. Windrows can be formed from piles of nearly any size, and alleyways are not required, which greatly reduces space requirements. The aerator can be used on irregular bases and does not typically require a special work pad due to the tires, clearances, and propulsion system of the loader or tool carrier. The reverse rotation of the aerator works the windrow from the bottom up and to the side.
The aerator is also low maintenance. It has a simple design with intermittent aerator flights that are reversible and bolt-on. The flights are constructed from abrasion-resistant carbon steel. Continuous flight aerators are also available on the SC3110, SC3610, and SC3912 models.

The aerator is powered by a Cummins® or Caterpillar® diesel engine with a 12-volt system and a disconnect clutch. Fuel is supplied from the loader or tool carrier. The transmission is hydrostatic and features a variable displacement piston pump and a fixed displacement piston motor. The gearbox is a planetary drive that is oil lubricated. The final reduction is a chain drive that is also enclosed and oil lubricated. The aerator comes standard with a hydraulic reservoir, filtration, and cooler circuit. Controls for the engine, transmission, hydraulics, and engine instrumentation are mounted on the operator platform. Couplers are supplied and installed by the dealer or customer.
