Brown Bear’s 10/152: A Powerful and Versatile Machine

The Brown Bear 10/152 is a heavy-duty machine designed for demanding tasks. Here’s a closer look at its features and capabilities:

Engine and Transmission:

  • The 10/152 is powered by a Cummins 6BT5.9 engine, a water-cooled diesel engine with turbocharging and aftercooling. This in-line 6-cylinder engine delivers 152 HP intermittently at 2,500 RPM.
  • The engine is paired with a 4-speed power shift transmission, offering four speeds in both forward and reverse. It includes a converter with a hydraulic pump drive.

Axles and Brakes:

  • Front Drive/Steer Axle: This planetary drive steer axle features trunnion mounting, 15° oscillation, a limited-slip differential, and outboard planetaries. It boasts a 28,000 lb capacity at a 101″ track.
  • Rear Drive/Steer Axle: Rigidly mounted to the differential, this axle also has a limited-slip differential, 13 7/8″ x 1 7/8″ center sections, outboard planetaries, and a 28,000 lb capacity at a 101″ track.
  • The 10/152 is equipped with hydraulically actuated service brakes (wheel-mounted disc calipers) on both axles. A mechanically actuated parking brake is mounted on the transmission drum.

Hydraulic and Electrical Systems:

  • The hydraulic system features a sealed, non-breathing reservoir with a 5 PSI atmospheric charge, a 100 mesh suction screen, and a 10 micron return filter. It utilizes a pressure-compensated piston pump with a displacement of 2.32 cubic inches, delivering 25 GPM at 2,500 RPM and a system relief of 2,300 PSI. Optional multiple spool closed center valving and cab-mounted controls are available.
  • The electrical system is a 12-volt negative ground system. It includes a 61 amp alternator, two heavy-duty 40 batteries, and a keyed ignition.

Operator Comfort and Safety:

  • The operator zone includes a ROPS and FOPS offset absorbing seat, operator controls, and a canopy for protection.
  • Standard safety features include a reverse alarm, nonskid access surfaces, and lockable fuel and hydraulic tank caps.
  • Operator controls are illuminated with international symbols and feature neutral safety start switching, meeting SAE J297 & J898 standards.
  • The machine comes with illuminated gauges, instruments, and indicators with international symbols. These include:
    • Transmission oil temperature gauge
    • Transmission clutch pressure gauge
    • Engine oil pressure gauge
    • Engine oil pressure light and buzzer
    • Hourmeter
    • Tachometer
    • Voltmeter
    • Fuel gauge
    • Rear wheel centered indicating light
  • Automatic reset circuit breakers are also standard.

Additional Features:

  • The 10/152 has a fuel tank capacity of 50 U.S. gallons.
  • Lighting includes front-mounted working lights, a cab-mounted rear work light, hazard flashers, and rear tail and brake lights.
  • Tire options include 23.1 x 26, 28L x 26 R-1, R-2 or LS2, or 23.5 x 25 E2 industrial tread tires mounted on welded steel rims.
  • An electric engine heater is standard equipment.
  • Numerous optional features are available, including:
    • Cab enclosure with heater and pressurization
    • Windshield washer
    • Coolant and hydraulic reservoir level sensors
    • Electric horn
    • Air conditioning
    • Backup light
