There are two types of mower rotors: flail rotors and fixed tooth rotors. Both have a tip-to-tip cutting diameter of 28 inches (711 mm) and are designed for use with skid loaders.
Flail Rotors
Flail rotors are fitted with 18 sharpened, heat-treated steel cutters. Each cutter is independently and rotatively pin-mounted on heat-treated pins. This design allows for quick changing of individual cutters and enables the cutters to rotate 360 degrees around the pin mount if they deflect. Centrifugal force positions the cutters in the drum. The cutters also overlap, ensuring a smooth cut, reducing hydraulic pressure spikes, and extending the life of hydraulic components.
Fixed Tooth Rotors
Fixed tooth rotors feature carbide-tipped, heat-treated steel cutters that are quick-change and pocket-mounted.There are various tooth patterns available, all incorporating cutter overlap for optimal cutting performance.
Shared Features and Specifications
Both flail and fixed tooth rotors share some key features and specifications:
- Dynamically balanced rotors
- Sealed rotor bearings
- Final drive through a cog belt drive
- Working diameter of 28 inches (711 mm)
- Cut width of 36 inches (914 mm)
- Overall unit width of 45 1/4 inches (1149 mm)
Hydraulic Motor Options and Weight
There are three optional hydraulic motor sizes for both types of rotors, allowing customization to the skid loader’s hydraulics. These options include displacements of 3.3, 3.8, or 5.4 cubic inches (54, 62, or 89 cm3), with a pressure limit of 3000 psi (207 BAR) and flow rates ranging from 25-55 GPM (95-208 LPM).
The weight of a flail cutter rotor is 1625 lbs (737 kg). The weight of a fixed cutter rotor varies depending on the tooth pattern and ranges from 1625-1800 lbs (737-782 kg).
Recommended Skid Steer Options
For optimal performance and safety, we recommend using these options with the rotors:
- Cab enclosure with air conditioning (A/C)
- Lexan cab glass
- Foam-filled tires
